There are many spaces and curators working together, this is just one open call for one of the spaces, Goodbye Blue Monday, which is being curated by Valerie Kuehne and Esther Neff. This space is a semi-indoors barn space on Broadway in Brooklyn. Durational performances are encouraged, length for performances can be 1-10 hours and the dates are July 6th, 10th, and 21st each day from 2pm to 2am.

Call for Performances

How can we imagine collectivity in the present moment, after new media, when connection is often mediated down to 140 characters, coalitions are negotiated through Facebook and embodied occupations of the streets have reinvigorated people around the world? The Convergence 2013 Curatorial Committee,Zach Blas, Micha Cárdenas and Dino Dinco, invite artists to propose performances within the theme and practice of “Experimental Collectivities.” We are particularly interested in exploring methods that will collectively produce and critique systems of knowledge/power.

The 2nd Hemi GSI Convergence will be an exploratory space of lateral collaboration and alternative pedagogy among scholars, artists and activists from throughout the Americas. Convergence 2013 will be jointly hosted by the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Southern California (USC) on October 11–13, 2013. Hemi GSI will also plan an optional pre-Convergence hosted by University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in La Jolla and Tijuana on October 10th, 2013.

The performance nights at Convergence 2013 will take place on and off campus, in collaboration with local art galleries and can include performances in public space. The exact venues are still being determined.

Tangible and Corporeal Imperialisms

Querying Queerness

Mediatized Cultures and Virtual Communities

Decolonial Feminism

Tourism, Reception and the Ethics of Visiting

Indigeneity, Memory and Praxis

Ecocriticism and the Non-human

Rethinking Textuality

Queer Technologies

Trans/realities

Artists in the Southern California and Northern Baja California regions are encouraged to apply, as the possibility of travel funds is limited.

7000 Padauk will be a creative space for action and exhibit. We will host artists, provide materials, invite the public, and share online every construction, duration, gathering and work of artists and people of Yangon.

Padauk is the name of a sweet-smelling flower that only blooms in April, during the Buddhist New Year celebrations. New year. New space. One month. Why one month? The space is an old house that we have permission to use until June when it will be torn down to build an apartment block. Check it out in the video here.

Yangon: the city formerly known as Rangoon in the country of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). Neither Mrat nor I are from Yangon but we both moved here to learn something. I’m from Alexandria, Virginia and Mrat is from Sittwe, a city in the Rakhine State in the Western part of Myanmar, bordering Bangladesh. The old concrete and wood house is on Kanna Road, which snakes along the Yangon River shipping terminals where cargo comes in from all over the world.

The interesting artists we have met and befriended here need a free space: a place where they can practice without time limits or governmental regulation or curated spectacle. We provide material support for their proposed project.

They can live in the space or spend a few hours there. They can create performance art work, graffiti murals, live painting shows or poetry. We document every step of the way, contributing to a new kind of conversation when it comes to art. Yes, experimental space happens everywhere. But at this time, in this place, it will only happen once.

Because a foundation cannot work within our deadline, we have to raise the money ourselves. We think of it as including our friends from all over the world, as well as in Myanmar, to become a part of this project. We like the idea of providing “rewards” for your generosity. For every donation made, we will show our gratitude in one of several ways.

The larger the donation, the more you join the conversation, the closer we can get you to experiencing 7000 Padauk. A care package, a personalized artist’s work or even a flight to come see where we are coming from are just some of the ways we can thank you.

The SUPERNOVA Performance Art Festival will debut June 6‐9, 2013, throughout Rosslyn, Virginia, in raw spaces, office lobbies, rooftops, parks, the Metro station, and other public places. SUPERNOVA will bring together emerging and established local, regional, national and international performance artists to present an expansive range of positions and approaches to performance art. A unique showcase of energetic artistic activity and action, SUPERNOVA is poised to establish Rosslyn as a preeminent territory for contemporary art experience.

SUPERNOVA is now accepting submissions for this performance art festival! Multi-‐site, multi-‐day, transdisciplinary, anti-‐conventional, SUPERNOVA will include and not be limited to: performance art, live art, body art, relational art, action art, happenings, actions, interventions, works-‐as-‐yet-‐ undefined, and those never-‐to-‐be defined. Or whatever you want, or refuse, to call it. Selected artists will receive a $250 honorarium, with the opportunity to apply for more funding. Limited housing and accommodations will be available, but not guaranteed. Artists are encouraged to seek individual funding for SUPERNOVA. Letters of acceptance and any supplementary materials will be provided to selected artists.

The deadline to submit entries is 5 p.m., March 15, 2013, and all decisions will be finalized by 9 a.m., April 5, 2013. Applicants are encouraged to take inspiration from the modern public parks, diversity of architecture, proximity to Washington, D.C., and lively corporate environment that makes Rosslyn so unique.
